Dark-eyed Junco

This little guy is a Dark-eyed Junco, there a several different varieties across the country, this one is a "slate colored".

Lily and I came home from taking the kids to school one morning and this little bird was singing as loud as it could while perched on this little bird house that Jackson and Kenny made out of old wood from grandpa Follett's fence.

I found it curious that we did not scare it away and we sat and watched it for a bit, I ran in the house to grab the camera thinking for sure it would be gone but he was still there.

It was quite windy that day and that little bird was not even going to budge for the wind, you can see his feathers being blown.

I thought it was a little strange until I noticed mama bird inside building a nest for her babies

Then it made perfect sense, papa bird was protecting, standing guard over their new little home!

Cardinal

Grandma Follett gave us a beautiful bird feeder and bird bath this year for Christmas and we have really enjoyed viewing our backyard birds even closer!

One of our favorite is this Cardinal, he is so striking!

This is Emma's favorite, she even has a little webkinz chickadee that she bought with birthday money.

Red-Bellied Woodpecker

Sometimes we walk outside and hear a jack hammer........

ok it's not a jack hammer but a Red-Bellied Woodpecker!

Hard to photograph so this is the best we could do, a beautiful bird, we have seen a male and female.

American Robin

We have a whole flock of Robins that have just returned from wintering in the last few weeks! They spend the majority of their days looking for worms in the meadow behind our house.

Cedar Waxwings

One afternoon there was a huge flock of birds out in our front yard!
I couldn't believe how many birds there were, I took some pictures and waited for Kenny to come home from work to identify them. When he looked at the pictures and zoomed in he could tell they were Cedar Waxwings, with a black eye mask and the tip of their tail looks like they had been dipped in yellow paint. He said they are very social birds and travel in flocks. Your not kidding!

We had about 30 and have seen them again in the backyard!
